Accessibility
We believe live music should be enjoyed by anyone and everyone.
We've worked closely with the South Bank team to make Southwave as accessible and welcoming as possible.
Southwave takes place at Rainforest Green, an outdoor space within South Bank Parklands. As the venue is a naturally sloping, grassed area, some parts of the site may be more challenging to navigate. We've put measures in place to help make your visit as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Read on for information about accessibility at Southwave, including accessible viewing, facilities, transport and more.
-
Southwave is located at Rainforest Green, behind the South Bank Piazza within South Bank Parklands.
South Bank is well serviced by public transport, including trains, buses, Brisbane Metro and ferries. Nearby transport options include South Bank and South Brisbane train stations, South Bank busway station and the South Bank ferry terminals.
Accessibility features vary between services and stations, so we recommend checking your journey with Translink before travelling.
If you have specific mobility requirements or would like assistance identifying the most suitable entrance to the event, please contact our team ahead of your visit.
-
Absolutely! Southwave is a licensed, all-ages event series. Most shows are free, and we encourage you to register your interest in advance.

Rainforest Green is a grassed outdoor space with a gentle slope. To improve accessibility, temporary pathways will be installed throughout designated areas of the event site.
A dedicated accessible viewing area with seating will be available for guests who use wheelchairs or mobility aids. This area will provide a designated space for patrons with access requirements and their companions to enjoy the performances away from the main standing crowd.
If you require access to the accessible viewing area, please contact southwave@thetivoligroup.com.au at least two business days before the event so our team can assist with arrangements.
Please be aware that some areas of the site will remain grassed and uneven, and ground conditions may change depending on the weather.
-
Public toilets, including accessible bathrooms, are located at the South Bank Piazza, approximately 20-30 metres from Rainforest Green.
For guests requiring additional support, an accessible bathroom equipped with a ceiling hoist is available at Riverside Terrace. Access to this facility requires an MLAK key. If you don't have one, the South Bank Visitor Information Centre can assist during opening hours. Guests using the hoist must provide their own sling with loop attachments.
Additional public toilets and accessible bathrooms are located throughout South Bank Parklands, including Little Stanley Street Plaza.
South Bank also has two parents' rooms in Stanley Street Plaza. The main parents' room is located in the Allgas Building and includes a microwave and change table, while a second parents' room provides additional baby-changing facilities.
For more information, visit South Bank's facilities page.
-
South Bank's secure underground car park has more than 800 parking spaces, including eight designated accessible parking bays.
The car park is located on Little Stanley Street, with vehicle entry via Tribune Street or Glenelg Street. Lift access is available from both the north and south entrances.
The car park has a vehicle height restriction of 2.1 metres, and accessible parking spaces are subject to availability.
For parking rates, operating hours and pre-booking information, visit South Bank's parking website.

Southwave is all about live music, and while we love a good party, we understand that loud music, crowds and busy environments aren't for everyone.
As an outdoor live music event, you can expect amplified sound, stage lighting and periods of increased crowd activity.
If you need a break from the action, you're welcome to leave the event site and return when you're ready. Simply speak to our staff before exiting to arrange a pass-out, which will allow you to re-enter without joining the general entry queue.
While Southwave does not have a dedicated sensory room, quieter areas can be found throughout the surrounding South Bank Parklands. Please note that these are public spaces and may still be busy during event times.
We encourage guests who are sensitive to loud noise to bring their own hearing protection.
-
Accredited assistance animals are welcome at Southwave.
Please be aware that the event takes place in an outdoor environment with amplified music, crowds and grassed surfaces. We encourage guests attending with assistance animals to consider these conditions when planning their visit.
If you have any questions about attending with an assistance animal, please get in touch with our team before the event.
-
Production elements may vary from event to event. Some performances are likely to include haze and other lighting or visual effects.

We want everyone to feel welcome at Southwave. If you have accessibility requirements, questions about the site or would like to discuss how we can support your visit, please contact us at southwave@thetivoligroup.com.au.
Where possible, we encourage guests to get in touch at least two business days before their chosen event so we can make suitable arrangements. If you're attending at shorter notice, please still reach out and we'll do our best to assist.
Our event staff will also be available on site to help with accessibility enquiries throughout the event.
