Aroop Roy is a producer, musician and label head, who joins the dots between electronic music and borderless organic sounds. From house, garage and techno to jazz, disco and global rhythms, he has enjoyed universal acclaim as a producer and DJ.
Like his productions, his sets are full of personality and style and have earned him a reputation as a uniquely gifted DJ. The entire catalogue has been celebrated by tastemakers across the scene with the latest offering "In the Fast Lane" receiving rave reviews for uncovering the historical connections between French virtuoso Jean-Luc Ponty and the Detroit techno movement. See him in his element, alongside Zjoso, Oscar Perry, Joan Thing & Karishma.
JOINED BY:
ZJOSO
West African in heritage, Naarm-based Zjoso has quickly become an essential thread weaving through the city’s musical tapestry.
He is the founder of Tribqu, a platform celebrating underground music and culture, where at the helm, he has successfully carved out a distinct role as a DJ, radio host and curator. His monthly radio programme presented on Skylab has become a cult favourite, whilst the dance cultivates a space where music is not led by a specific genre rather a feeling and exploration in sound and movement. Tribqu has energised a community movement of like-minded music lovers.
An accomplished and versatile DJ, Zjoso explores his love for soulful music across the spectrum.
oscar perry [live]
Armed with a dusty old Tascam mixer and a small family of beloved keyboards, Oscar Perry (Byron Bay / Bundjalung Country) sifts through the catalogues of electronic music history to brew beats that are lively and leftfield.
His first release under his own name, Wind Dance EP, is curious and light on its feet. Undulating, watery synth excursions and bouncy subs that are melodic and introspective, equally at home on bass bins beneath a eucalypt-framed Milky Way or on a late-night headphone dive. Crisp, syncopated machine rhythms divide drifting melodies and dubbed-out textures - a little windy world. With the EP bubbling away on community radio Wind Dance has since taken Perry down to Melbourne to debut his evolving live set for DJ Julius Myles’ BURNIN’ party and had him booked for the EMOM showcase at the Dingo Music and Arts Festival.
joan thing
Joan Thing is a Magandjin (Brisbane)-based selector known for playful, body-first dance floors. A lover of dance music - her sets explore the housier side of the musical spectrum with elements of Afro and electro. Expect textured rhythms with plenty of depth, warmth and bounce.
karishma
Karishma is a queer Meanjin-born and bred music lover, who is often found at the front of the dance floor. Karishma sees music as a mode of expression and belonging, where community is formed and sharing love is the main goal. Her approach to music is simple; the dance floor is for everyone. Her style incorporates all that is fun, flirty, feminine and euphoric.
